Grab Social Media by the Horns

By now, it is becoming clear that being on Social Media is not an option but a necessity. The days of statements such as “there is no reason for me to be on Facebook” have gone by the waste side. It’s not a matter of how, but how much. Social Media isn’t only an asset to your business & sales from a marketing stand point, but is an essential to your business when it comes to brand, image and customer relations. So how do you take advantage of this tool, and where do you start?? For this example, let us say that we are a B2C company selling products to men ages 25-45.

Step 1: Identify what platforms are best for you – To do this, you must understand where the demographic of Males 25-45 spend their time. Facebook, Twitter, Linked-In, Instagram and Youtube are very effective traditional ways to begin. Always dig deeper into secondary platforms to find unique ways to hit your customer base -I always advise clients to set up a fully functional Google Plus platform as well as all apps associated with Google because of their overwhelming influence on SEO

Step 2: Develop a Plan -Fail to plan, Plan to fail – Develop a social media plan in order to maximize your message will allow you to be more efficient and consistent with your message. Scheduling programs such as HootSuite can be a huge asset, but real-time interaction brings the most optimal results. -Understand when the most effective time for views and interaction are on each platform. Below is a neat graphic to help. SocialMedia Times Step 3: Understand How to Use Each Platform – Social Media users are on each platform for different reasons, and are attracted to different content based upon each unique platform. For example, Images do extremely well on Facebook because the reader has a visual to peak their interest. Posts with just text tend to have very low recorded views. Platforms such as Twitter use #Hashtags, to develop groups of similar conversations, so when you use this technique views, retweets and favourites tend to increase.

Step 4: Execute & Interact – Take your developed plan and carry it out as decided upon. Stay on message and be consistent. Remember content is king, the more and more relevant the better – Interaction is why #SocialMedia was created. If someone responds, respond back. If they retweet, thank them for act.

The most valuable tool for interaction is the search feature on Twitter. Search for tweets related to your business and interact as often as possible. It is a great way to build your business.
